“I want to do so much with my web site—but where do I start?”

Get a Clear Plan Forward with Website GPS

Maybe you’ve had your site for awhile but it’s embarrassingly out of date and is no longer contributing to your business. Perhaps you and your business are changing, but your site hasn’t caught up. You want to create or update your site in a way that is cost-effective, looks fantastic, and makes a significant contribution to your bottom line.

You’re thinking about creating the site yourself, or you’re already working with someone who has the technical skills to put it together, or you want to know what you’re doing before you start interviewing designers. What platform is most appropriate for what you’re doing? What social media should you be enabling on the site? What kind of design tools are out there for your particular type of business or portfolio? Should you have a blog? Audio? Video? Where do you start? Often, people tend to get stuck right about here.

What do you need in order to get unstuck?

1. Clarity about your site’s goals. When you know exactly what you want your site to achieve, it’s unbelievably easy to translate these goals into a strategic plan for your site.

2. Technology expertise. The technology choices you make in today’s fast-changing internet world must be easy to use, economical, and flexible enough to allow your business to grow and change without having to start again at square one. You need the expertise to assess what choices best fit your budget and goals.

3. Understanding what’s necessary to make your business model work on the web. So many clients have come to me with really interesting ideas, but little understanding of the realities of building a profitable web-based business. You need a great idea, service or product—and a workable business model, with the systems that support it.

The question I’m asked more than any other is “Where do I start?”

There are so many technologies out there, it’s no wonder that people come to me feeling overwhelmed with possibilities.

Lots of designers don’t really care whether your business ends up working after the site leaves their hands. I do. That’s why I’ve made it my mission to understand not just the esthetics and mechanics of putting a site or blog together, but all the factors that make sites like yours succeed.

When you (a) have a clear intention, (b) you know which technologies can best accomplish these goals, and (c) you can put the systems together so that your business is viable, practical and manageable—then you’ve got everything in place to create an outstanding web site that will support your business growth.

Price and process

When you purchase a personal Website GPS consultation with me, we’ll first find out where you’re at with a short questionnaire. Then, we’ll set up a time to talk. In this conversation, we’ll start by clarifying your goals. We’ll bring to light any roadblocks to your site’s success, and discover ways to overcome them. We’ll walk through your make-or-break requirements and any other specific issues you may have. Then we create a web site action plan that feels clear and do-able.

Answering the questionnaire usually takes about 20 minutes. We’ll talk together for about an hour, to an hour and a half. Then I’ll email you a written summary of the plan we’ve created. Depending on your needs, we can emphasize visual design, marketing, content, technical specs—wherever you’re feeling stuck.

Whether you’ll be putting your site together yourself, or relying a designer, you’ll have a detailed “spec sheet”—a clear set of steps, supported by specific suggestions, that leads you straight towards the site of your dreams.
